UK Government seeks companies to share experience of climate reporting rules

The UK government wants companies to help it understand how effective its climate-disclosure rules are.

The Department for Business and Trade has appointed IFF Research to conduct interviews with listed and unlisted firms that report under its 2022 climate-related financial disclosures regulations.

Participants will explain how they put the reports together – from data collection to final publication – and whether it has any influence on internal strategy, access to capital or investor engagement.

The feedback will inform a post-implementation review of the regulations, which will inform whether the government revokes, retains or modifies the rules.

The UK government published its first two Sustainability Reporting Standards (UK SRS) last month, based on the work of the International Sustainability Standards Board.

Meanwhile, the Financial Conduct Authority will close a consultation on Friday on whether to introduce regulatory requirements for listed companies to report against the UK SRS, as part of an update to the UK Listing Rules.
