EFRAG’s sustainability body to get new Chair

The EU is recruiting the next head of its Sustainability Reporting Board

The European Commission is looking for the next chair of its sustainability reporting advisory body.

The current head of EFRAG’s Sustainability Reporting Board (SRB), Patrick de Cambourg, will step down from the position after his three-year term is up later this year.

He has been at the helm of the SRB since it was set up in 2022 to help develop the European Sustainability Reporting Standards that underpin the bloc’s corporate disclosure law, CSRD.

According to a job advert published by the Commission on Thursday, chairs are appointed for an initial three-year term, with the option to extend by another three.

The Commission did not explain why de Cambourg’s term has not been extended, and had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication.

Last week, the Commission mandated EFRAG to provide technical guidance on the revision of the ESRS by the end of October. Financial services commissioner Maria Luis Albuquerque told the body to work fast and in collaboration with the companies using the standards.

The Commission’s candidate for SRB chair will have to be approved by European Parliament and Council, before being confirmed by EFRAG’s general assembly, which includes a representative from trade body BusinessEurope.

The deadline for application is 15 May.
